Q: What support or resources does the Cabinet of the Minster Plenipotentiary provide for finding housing in the Netherlands?

The Cabinet does not provide housing, nor do they have jurisdiction over the housing process. Housing in the Netherlands is currently a significant challenge, with demand far exceeding supply. Before moving to the Netherlands or relocating to another city, it is crucial that you secure accommodation in advance and ensure that you can legally register at your address. Taking these steps will help reduce any potential issues with your relocation.

Q: I need an official document legalized. What is the legalization procedure?

For your documents to be legalized, you must ensure the following: Visit the Directorate of Foreign Relations on Sint Maarten for legalization of the notary’s signature. They are located in the government building on Pond Island. Visit our office in Den Haag for legalization (€10). Before visiting please call and make an appointment for the legalization of your documents. Visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Den Haag (across from Den Haag CS) for legalization (€10)

Q: I am on vacation and my passport is damaged. How can I apply for a new passport?

As a non-resident (you do not live in the Netherlands), you have lost your Dutch passport or ID card, or if it has been stolen, you must take the following steps: Step-by-step plan in case of loss: Report to the police: Immediately report the loss or theft to the local police. Emergency document or new passport: Need to travel urgently? Apply for an emergency passport or a laissez-passer at the embassy or consulate. This is only intended for urgent travel back home. Not traveling immediately? Q: How can I change my SXM driver’s license to a Dutch Driver’s license?

In the Netherlands you will be allowed a limited period for driving with a foreign driving licence. After that, you must exchange the driving licence through your municipality.
