As a non-resident (you do not live in the Netherlands), you have lost your Dutch passport or ID card, or if it has been stolen, you must take the following steps:
Step-by-step plan in case of loss:
- Report to the police:
Immediately report the loss or theft to the local police.
- Emergency document or new passport:
- Need to travel urgently?
Apply for an emergency passport or a laissez-passer at the embassy or consulate. This is only intended for urgent travel back home.
- Not traveling immediately?
Apply for a new passport via the Dutch embassy/consulate, or via the “Passport Desk” in the border municipalities (Haarlemmermeer/Schiphol, The Hague, or various border regions).
