The Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary hosted a heartwarming St. Martin Day reception at its headquarters in The Hague on Tuesday evening, November 11. The celebration brought together representatives from across the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the diplomatic corps, and friends of Sint Maarten for an evening filled with culture, music, and unity.

The program opened with the national song of Sint Maarten, beautifully performed by Aldiner Laurent and Quincy Adolphin, setting the tone for an evening that honored both the island’s traditions and its enduring spirit. Among those delivering congratulatory remarks were His Excellency Carlson Manuel, Minister Plenipotentiary of Curaçao, His Excellency François Alabrune, Ambassador of France, and Director of Kingdom Relations – Caribbean Netherlands, Dr. René Bagchus. The Cabinet of Aruba was represented by Ms. Shandra John, who extended warm greetings on behalf of Aruba.

In her St. Martin Day address, Her Excellency Drs. Gracita R. Arrindell, Minister Plenipotentiary, reflected on the island’s progress, resilience, and the importance of regional cooperation. “Since achieving our new status as a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, we are fully aware that we can chart our own course, making our own sprint forward, while passing the torch of democracy to the next generation of leaders,” she said.

She also emphasized the shared strength of Caribbean partnerships: “Cooperation across the Caribbean is essential to our mutual growth and long-term sustainability,” Arrindell noted. “We continue to engage and explore areas of cooperation with our regional colleagues.”

The evening’s cultural highlight included a dynamic performance by Frameless Collective, bringing the vibrant energy of Sint Maarten to life. Guests later joined in a ceremonial toast, the cutting of the St. Martin Day cake, and the sharing of heartfelt stories, all in the true spirit of One Island, One People, One Celebration.
